Sector/Unit/Project: Building Institutional Capacity and Resilience Against Natural Disasters (BRAND)

Position Status: Project Based

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Project Coordinator

Job Summary:

The DP-DRR Support Officer is responsible for developing a comprehensive understanding of government structures, particularly in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) efforts, and bridging the gap between DRR initiatives and government policies and actions. This role involves coordinating with district and provincial level stakeholders to oversee project coordination and communication.

Authority Assigned:

  • Develop, analyze, and collect data on DRR.
  • Build synergies within local, district, and provincial level stakeholders through coordination and engagements.
  • Develop disaster risk reduction strategies to ensure safety, well-being, and resilience against natural or man-made disasters.

Position Specification:

Academic/Technical:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Development Studies, Environmental Science, or relevant discipline from a recognized university/institute.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Disaster Risk Reduction and emergency response and relief operations.

Competencies (Knowledge, skills, and attitude):

  • In-depth understanding of DRR principles, emergency response strategies, logistics management, and distribution protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess disaster impacts, identify vulnerabilities, and develop appropriate response strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams and thrive in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments.
  • Capacity to make informed decisions during crises.

Description of Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities.
  2. Analyze historical data and trends to understand disaster frequency and impact.
  3. Develop disaster preparedness plans.
  4. Raise awareness about disaster risks and build capacity for response and recovery among stakeholders.
  5. Organize and assist in capacity building trainings and workshops on DRR and emergency response.
  6. Provide guidance and support in developing emergency response skills and competencies.
  7. Coordinate emergency response efforts during disasters or crises.
  8. Ensure effective implementation of response plans.
  9. Collect and analyze data on early warning systems and anticipatory action approaches.
  10. Prepare regular progress reports and share lessons learned.
  11. Maintain accurate records of distribution activities and needs assessments.
  12. Participate in emergency response activities, providing technical expertise and leadership when required.
